My mom used to pull that crap. At least it isn't worse does not ever mean it's not bad, it's just a way to dismiss you. Yes, sometimes we need to look at things a different way and find gratitude in the mess somewhere, but sometimes whatever you're in is bad enough to warrant a fix, it doesn't have to be the worst before you act.
