You can be on top to start with, and work it good that way. Then he can take over. My wife has to start on top because I'm a little on the larger side and if I start no matter how ready she is or how slow and gentle I go, its just too much for her right from the start. We use lube too. But if she starts on top, she puts me in her, and goes at her own pace and depth until she likes it and then rides me for a little while, then she's ready for more positions.
